The Best Beaches In South Devon

With over 120 miles of beautiful coastline, South Devon boasts some of the best beaches in the whole of the UK.  Crystal clear bathing water and endless miles of sandy shores make the beaches of South Devon a tourist mecca

There are both sandy and rocky beaches all along the South Devon coast to discover; build sandcastles, explore rock pools or take to the water and try your hand at a wide variety of watersports. Whatever you have in mind, you and your family won’t be disappointed.

Man’s best friend also welcome!

What would a family holiday near the beach be without your four-legged friend? Well no need to fret, many of the beaches in the area are dog friendly – some all-year around and others during winter months.

Here are jut a few of our favourite beaches to visit in South Devon. We’ve also included when you can take your dog to enjoy the coast too!

Bantham Beach

Bantham is a surfer’s paradise with plenty of waves for the thrill-seekers. A large sandy beach, Bantham has spectacular views of Burgh Island and around to Bigbury Bay. There are plenty of rock pools and sand dunes to explore. Being at the mouth of the river Avon, fishing and kayaking is also popular here.

Blackpool Sands

Located in a sheltered bay near Dartmouth, Blackpool Sands is great for the whole family. Boasting a Blue Flag for cleanliness, the sandy beach has a shop, cafe and takeaway. You can hire  kayaks and paddle boards and there is plenty of parking.

Torcross Beach

Torcross is a shingle beach that stretches over 2 miles around a curving bay. The waters here are deep and very popular with fishermen. Torcross is infamous for being the practice beach for the D-Day landings and Operation Tiger, there is even a Sherman Tank memorial that was pulled from the sea during the 1980’s.

Mill Bay

A sheltered sandy beach close to East Portlemouth, Mill Bay is extremely popular with families although parking can be tricky. The best way to visit Mill Bay is by catching a ferry from Salcombe which is located opposite. The water here is crystal clear and great for bathing.
